Komandandi aed (Commandant's Garden)

The Komandandi Garden (‘Commandant's Garden’ in English), located on the slope of Toompea hill, is a small green area in the Old Town, bordered on one side by the Nevsky Cathedral and on the other by the Kiek in de Kök artillery tower and the city wall. The park is named after the nearby Tallinn commandant’s house on the corner of Toompea Street and Komandandi Road where the Commander-in-chief used to live.

The Danish Queen’s Rose Garden is also located within the Commander’s Garden. The garden has 800 roses to mark the 800 years of the first written mention of Tallinn and the 800th anniversary of the Danish flag Dannebrog that according to the legend fell down from heaven in Tallinn on 15 June 1219. The garden also has eight so-called Copenhagen benches and a memorial plaque on the wall.

During the summer season, medieval-themed entertainment is organised on the square behind the Neitsitorn tower; for example, visitors can try their hand at archery.
