Where can I buy the Tallinn Card?

You can buy your Tallinn Card online before you arrive. You can also buy one on board Viking Line and Eckerö Line ferries. You can pick one up immediately upon arrival at the airport, ferry passenger port (A and D terminals) or bus station. If you didn't buy it there, chances are it's available at your hotel's reception desk. It's also sold at the centrally-located Tallinn Tourist Information Centre and in various travel agencies. Find information about sales points under Prices & sales points.

How does it work?

The Tallinn Card is valid from the first time it is used and remains valid for the period specified by the card type, i.e. 24h, 48h or 72h. You must activate your QR Tallinn Card on the start date you selected when you bought it and as indicated on the ticket. It will then be valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours from that moment. Show the Tallinn Card at the admission desks in museums and sights and to sightseeing tour providers. To receive discounts in cafés, restaurants and shops, remember to show your card before ordering or making a purchase. In buses, trolleys and trams, just validate your card by touching it to one of the orange card readers (at all vehicle entrances) at the start of each journey. QR Tallinn Cards can only be validated using the lower screen on the validator by the front door of the bus, trolley bus or tram.

When does my Tallinn Card become activated?

The Tallinn Card is activated the first time you use it and remains valid for the specified number of hours purchased, i.e. 24h, 48h or 72h. So you can buy it before your trip and start using it at any time during your stay in Tallinn.
You must activate your QR Tallinn Card on the start date you selected when you bought it and as indicated on the ticket. The start date selected when buying a QR Tallinn Card cannot be changed.


Are the main attractions in Tallinn covered by the Tallinn Card?

Yes, entrance to all the main attractions is included with the Tallinn Card.

Are all three lines of the Tallinn City Tour free with the Tallinn Card PLUS?

If you choose the Tallinn City Tour as your free tour, then yes, the Tallinn Card PLUS is valid on all three lines during the validity period of your card.

Is public transportation - buses, trams and trolleys - included with the Tallinn Card?

Yes, the Tallinn Card allows unlimited free transport on Tallinn’s buses (up to No 73), trolleys and trams. Please remember to validate your card by touching it to one of the orange card readers (at all vehicle entrances) at the start of each journey.

Is transportation to/from the airport, port, railway station and bus station covered by the Tallinn Card?

You can easily use public transport for connections to/from the airport, port, railway station and bus station – it's all free with the Tallinn Card. 
Tallinn Airport is just a 15-minute bus ride from the city centre. Bus no. 2 makes the trip, departing roughly every 20 minutes. The Port of Tallinn's passenger terminals are just a 5-minute bus/tram ride from the centre. Take tram no. 1 or bus no. 2.
From the railway station to the centre, take tram no. 1.
From the bus station, take bus 17, 17A, 23 or 42.


Do I need to validate my Tallinn Card on public transport?

Yes, validate your Tallinn Card by touching it to one of the orange card readers (at all vehicle entrances) at the start of each journey. QR Tallinn Cards can only be validated using the lower screen on the validator by the front door of the bus, trolley bus or tram.

How many times can I use public transport with the Tallinn Card?

The Tallinn Card allows unlimited, free use of Tallinn’s buses, trolleys and trams during the card's validity period – so you may use it as many times as you need.

What is the difference between the Tallinn Card and a public transport smartcard?

The Tallinn Card is a city card that entitles you to free admission to museums and sights, unlimited free use of public transport, a free sightseeing tour with the Tallinn Card PLUS and other offers and discounts. A public transport smartcard is valid only on public transport. You need to pay a 2-euro deposit for your new smartcard, then load it with credit or buy different types of tickets for it. One smartcard can be used by multiple people (family members, colleagues, etc.). The smartcard is refundable (up to 6 months after the first validation) when you return it to the Tallinn City Council customer service desk (Vabaduse väljak 7, open Mon-Fri 8:30-16:00). Another option is to buy a single-journey paper ticket when you board. These cost 2 euros and are sold by the driver.

Is the Tallinn Card valid on consecutive days?

Yes. For instance, if you start a 24-hour card at noon today, it will be valid until noon tomorrow.

Is it possible to visit a museum more than once with the Tallinn Card?

No, the Tallinn Card is valid for only one admission to each attraction.

I am travelling with children – what about children’s cards?

With an adult card you can bring along two children under 7 for free. Tallinn Cards for children up to 17 years old (inclusive) have separate prices. 


Are discounts available for students/seniors/families/groups?

There is no special price for students or seniors. We offer special prices for children up to 17 years old (inclusive). With an adult card you can bring along two children under 7 for free. Groups of 10 or more are eligible for a 10% discount on their Tallinn Cards when they purchase them directly from the Tallinn Tourist Information Centre. Payment for the cards can be made either in cash or by credit card.

May I get a refund for the Tallinn Card or exchange it?

No, the Tallinn Card is non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for other types of cards.

Are museums and attractions open on public holidays?

Most museums and sights are closed on national holidays, but plenty remain open. You can find specific information on our website under "News".

How much can I save with the Tallinn Card?

The Tallinn Card provides free admission to the main museums and tourist attractions in the city, unlimited use of public transport and a range of discounts and benefits. If you buy the Tallinn Card PLUS, in addition to everything just mentioned you also get a free hop-on, hop-off excursion or a free walking tour (in Russian).
