Jüriöö park was established on the highest ground of Tallinn on the Sõjamäe ridge, 55 metres above the sea level. On May 14 in 1343 a decisive battle between the Livonian Order master Dreileben’s armoured men and Estonians was fought on Sõjamäe (Soldier's Mount), today know as Jüriöö park (St George's Night Park) area. Marking this battle and others the nation's long struggle for freedom, the 1918-20 War of Independence and World War II is a sword in the ground and memorial stone for the fallen.
