Rocca al Mare is an area in Tallinn. The name Rocca al Mare comes from a manor located in the area that now belongs to Estonian Open Air Museum.

Rocca al Mare is located by the sea in western Tallinn, and easy reach with public transport. Buses leave from Viru Centre and Balti Jaam Railway station on regular basis. The 7-8 kilometre ride takes about 30 minutes with public transport.

Locals call Rocca al Mare just Rocca. The area has lots of woods and beautiful nature, but also residential houses and apartment buildings. It is a diverse area, which not too many tourists tend to explore. There is plenty of opportunities to spend quality time in Rocca al Mare. You can easily spend the whole day here.

Spend the day at a traditional Estonian village

Estonian Open Air Museum is one of the most beautiful areas in Tallinn – a traditional Estonian village by the sea. The museum has old houses from all over Estonia introducing how people used to live in the olden days. You can also learn about traditional celebrations and daily tasks people had on farms.

The grounds of the museum are amazing just to walk and wander. Every day, horse and cart rides are available and Kolu Inn offers traditional Estonian food in the centre of the village.

Meet exciting animals

Tallinn Zoo is home to exciting animals all over the world. The zoo has the best collection of mountain goats and sheep in the world.


With highly skilled staff, the zoo has been successful in protecting and reproducing of its nurselings. Tallinn Zoo takes part in scientific research and environmental enrichment processes that enhance the social, physical and psychological well-being of the animals.

Meet and greet polar bears Nord, Friida and Aron and elephants Carl, Draay and Fien. There are also rhinos, leopards, seals and meerkats waiting for you. The Children’s Zoo is home to many domestic and pet animals, and open every day.

Go birdwatching

Head to Rocca al Mare Promenade that connects Rocca al Mare with Stroomi beach in northern Tallinn. The promenade is 2,5 kilometres long and runs along the coastline of Tallinn Bay.

You can walk, run, skate or bike the promenade and enjoy magnificent views over the bay. By the promenade stands new 9-meters high tower for people who want to watch and photograph birds. 189 different bird species have been spotted here. The tower was constructed as part of the NATTOURS programme.

Shop ‘til you drop

Rocca al Mare Shopping Centre was opened twenty years ago. It was the biggest shopping mall in Estonia and it remains one of the biggest. It is one of the most popular shopping spots among locals and popular place to grab dinner before heading for a game or concert in Saku Suurhall. The shopping centre is located across the road from the Tallinn Zoo.


In Rocca al Mare Shopping Centre, all the largest Estonian fashion brands are available, such as Ivo Nikkolo, Monton, Mosaic, Bastion and Baltman. The shopping centre has 170 stores. There are numerous brand and fashion shops, furniture and electronics stores, and book and gift shops. Anything you can imagine, and also a large grocery store and 15 cafés and restaurants.

Take part in thrilling events

Saku Suurhall is the best-known multifunctional indoor arena in Estonia. The arena is located right next to Rocca al Mare shopping centre. It was opened in 2001 and already in 2002, the biggest celebration in Europe – Eurovision Song Contest – was hosted here.
