Hello March, we have been waiting for you! Although we cannot yet guarantee you full-on spring (after all, the Throve Tuesday, our main sledging celebration, falls on March 5 this year), the sun is out and the Tallinn’s cultural scene is blooming.

Special Events

03-05.03.2019

On Shrove Tuesday (5.03), we say goodbye to winter and start the Lenten period. This means celebrating with delicious hearty food and, most importantly, sledging for good luck: the further you slide the better. 

If you are more of a competitive type, register your team, bring your own sledge and aim for the longest ride at Vimka ski resort’s Shrovetide event in Viimsi (5.03, 10.30-15:00). 



International Women’s Day

To honour the important women in their lives, the men in Estonia seem to prefer the language of music. Here are just three examples to give you a general idea:

Six beloved Estonian male singers will be united on stage to enchant the audience with beautiful songs and ballads to honour the special women in our lives. International Women’s Day: Mahler’s Third by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra

Accompanied by an impressive selection of Estonian professional choirs and orchestras, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra will perform Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, one of the ten greatest symphonies of all time as voted by the BBC Music Magazine

International Women’s Day: Lorenzo de Finti’s Quartet (ITA)

Lorenzo de Finti is a renowned Italian jazz pianist, composer, and radio host. In Tallinn, he will be performing with his quartet to bring you the melodies from his latest album, “Love Unknown”, in the intimate atmosphere of the NO jazz club.

Baltic Sea Philharmonic. Nordic Pulse Tour 2019

The Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra brings together top musicians from Estonia, Denmark, Poland, Finland, Germany, Norway, Latvia, Russia, and Sweden under the baton of the charismatic Grammy-nominated artistic director, Kristjan Järvi. The programme is a mix of classical and contemporary, consisting of oeuvres by P. Vasks, K. Järvi, G. Gelgotas and P. Tchaikovsky.

The biggest indoor music festival and industry conference in the Baltic region. The line-up consists of more than 200 local and international artists – a multi-genre mix from up-and-coming acts to established heavyweights. In addition to regular concert venues, the festival’s City Stage programme brings you free pop-up concerts in cafés, galleries and private homes.

Tallinn Boat Show "Meremess"

Musical “Les Misérables”, Vanemuine Theatre

Boublil’s and Schönberg’s Les Misérables is a global stage sensation, featuring the songs “I Dreamed A Dream”, “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More”, and “On My Own”. Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, it is a story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice, and redemption.

Dylan Moran: Dr. Cosmos

BAFTA and Perrier Award (from Edinburgh’s Fringe) winning comedian is touring Europe with his newest tour, ‘Dr. Cosmos’, to offer the audience his unique take on love, politics, and the absurdities of everyday life.

Sots Art, or Soviet Pop Art, originated in the 1970s as a reaction to Moscow’s official aesthetic doctrine. During Perestroika, this ironic style started to reflect in the creation of Eastern European fashion designers.

Money is not only a means of payment and a medium of exchange, but also a symbol of a state’s sovereignty or the lack of it, its political and social circumstances, its leaders, people and self-image. The exhibition pays homage to Estonian money, its design and the artists who have helped to build and maintain trust in Estonian money.

The exhibition introduces the best Estonian science photos from 2015 to 2017 and takes the visitor on a discovery journey into the fascinating microscopic world of various living organisms. On display are the selected works from the annual science photo competition organised by Wikimedia Estonia.
