    Karlskirche in Tallinn

    Der dem Andenken des schwedischen Königs Karls XI. gewidmete Sakralbau ist sehr repräsentativ und die größte historistische Kalksteinkirche der Stadt. Der Entwurf der Kirche stammt von Otto Pius Hippius, Architekt aus St. Petersburg mit estnischen Wurzeln, und er beabsichtigte, dass die Kanzel und der Altar als Mittelpunkte des Gottesdienstes von allen Sitzplätzen der Kirche aus gut zu sehen und dass die Predigt des Geistlichen gut zu hören war. Er hielt den künstlerischen Aspekt und eine gute Beleuchtung beim Aussehen der Kirche für sehr wichtig. Die Altargemälde von J. Köler und S. Kügelgen schmücken die Karslkirche und sind eine Besichtigung wert. Der älteste Teil der Kirche sind die Turmglocken, 1884 wurde die größte Orgel Estlanda mit 30 Registern und einer mechanischen Traktur fertiggestellt.

      Kaarli church is not like the other churches in Tallinn and has got its own unique architecture. You might find it not open at certain times of the day, though the interior is pretty small.
